We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we walk, live and learn, the Bullongin & Kombumerri people. We pay our deepest respects to Elders resting in the Dreamtime and to the Elders of today, who will continue to care, protect and nurture the Country that we gather on to learn and connect. We feel both privileged, and grateful to now be sharing and caring for the country on which we are living and learning.
Events, dates and times may change. Please check the school calendar regularly to keep updated.

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Thank you
I would like to acknowledge the wonderful support from our community for our teachers when they took industrial action this week. While the school remained open to a small number of students, our staff numbers were significantly smaller. I will never be perfect in all I do but I will always do my best to balance the competing political challenges that school leaders face. I am very clear in keeping our children and community as my primary focus.
Our teachers work tirelessly each day to provide the best learning opportunities they can for our children. But life in the classroom and at school is very challenging work. Teachers take extra kids in their classes when we cannot find replacement staff, they often go without release times, they regularly complete extra supervision duties, frequently change their planned programs... and they still provide extra-curricular activities, fun and care for students.
From my perspective, any improvements for teachers, staff or schools is a great thing for our children and community.
A day at the museum
I was delighted to see the Year 6 classes head off to the Queensland Museum this week. This is a great place to take your family should the opportunity arise. The curated displays will keep everyone occupied and engaged for a complete day. Thank you to our teachers for leading this extra-curricular activity.

Free dress day (Purple) next Friday
Bullying happens in all aspects of life - at school, in the community and around the world, despite our best efforts and strongest intentions for it not to. Standing against bullying is everyone's responsibility. It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate.
In our community and in our school, we want a place where everyone can belong, a place that celebrates everyone for their differences, and where bullying is never accepted.
This Bullying No Way Week, we are asking our entire school community to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone, and be proud to take a stand against bullying.
We are holding a free dress day on Friday 15 August to unite against bullying. The theme is PURPLE.

Celebrations of Learning
Year 3
3M have been working well in groups during myConnections lessons and selecting three key facts about our brains from TED Ed Talk videos. Here are some that we discussed.
· Eating healthy makes our brain calm.
· Our brain produces serotonin and dopamine.
· Having the support of others is important following brain injury.
· Keep on trying our best even if we fail.

Year 4

Year 5
This week, 5E have been hard at work crafting their very first persuasive writing pieces for the term, focusing on the topic of Waste Free Wednesday. Students used their research skills to gather facts and examples to support their arguments. They then applied persuasive techniques such as rhetorical questions, strong topic sentences, and emotive language to convince their readers why a Waste Free Wednesday should be introduced at our school. We are so proud of their creativity and determination!

Year 6
This week, our Year 6 students visited the Brisbane Museum and SparkLab, where they had the opportunity to explore fascinating exhibits and interactive displays. At SparkLab, they deepened their understanding of energy through hands-on experiments and engaging demonstrations. They also explored the incredible artefacts at the museum, gaining insight into history, science, and culture. It was a fun and educational experience that sparked curiosity and inspired learning.

We’re incredibly proud of the work our school is doing in partnership with The Resilience Project. A recent study by Monash University has revealed some remarkable findings around student mental health—further confirming that we're heading in the right direction.

of the P&C Association
The next general meeting of the P&C Association will be held on Tuesday 16 September at 7:00pm, via TEAMS.
Please email the P&C at pandc@coomerariversss.eq.edu.au for a TEAMS link.
P&C meetings are a great way to keep up to date with what is going on around our school. The meetings also provide our families with an opportunity to have input and feedback on matters relating to school and community life. Meetings are open to all families and we encourage families to attend our on-line meeting and contribute to your school community which forms a vital part of your children's educational journey.
We look forward to seeing you on-line at our next meeting.
Over the past few weeks at OSHC, our children had lots of fun engaging in a range of programmed and spontaneous activities.
In the hall, the children transformed into magic K-pop Demon Hunter dancers, releasing their powerful dance moves in a showcase for everyone in the hall. Dancing together gave the children a strong sense of belonging, as they supported each other, corrected mistakes with kindness, and celebrated their shared love for music. Children took the lead, proudly sharing the moves he has been practising, inspiring his peers to join in and express themselves through rhythm and movement.
For arts and crafts, the children did a magnetic painting experiment, which captured the children’s imaginations. The children used magnets to move metal pieces through paint, they created swirling, colourful artworks while marvelling at the science behind it. The activity encouraged creativity, problem-solving, and curiosity, proving that learning and wonder often go hand in hand.
The children invented a new game with mini lacrosse. They quickly picked up the basics and loved the excitement of one-on-one play. Their enthusiasm has sparked plans to extend this interest into small team games on the oval, encouraging strategy, teamwork, and active play on a larger scale.
In the garden, many children also enjoyed spending time tending to plants. Whether watering, weeding, or checking on new growth, they showed pride in caring for their environment. Gardening continues to be a calming and rewarding activity that fosters responsibility and connection to nature.
From dancing and painting to inventing new games and nurturing the garden, the past few weeks have been a celebration of imagination, community, and growth. We can’t wait to see what the children explore next!

Have you registered for QParents?
Here at Coomera Rivers, we encourage all families to register for QParents to help make school communication and administration easier and more efficient for you.
What is QParents?
QParents is a secure online portal that gives parents quick, easy access to your student information including timetables, report cards, payment history, enrolment history, behaviour records and attendance records.
Parents can also use QParents to report future absences, provide reasons for unexplained absences, update student addresses and medical records and pay outstanding invoices.
Coomera Rivers is working towards transitioning to QParents Consent Management for all excursion permissions and consent forms. This change will streamline the process for families by allowing consent to be provided digitally—eliminating the need for paper forms.
