Mr Campbell is looking after the health and wellbeing side of our program and has been busy creating an engaging Soccer Skills program for our children to participate in on a weekly basis.
The program is held every Monday and Wednesday after school care and focuses on developing basic soccer skills such as passing, shooting and dribbling, as well as teaches the children about how the game is played and the rules involved.
As well as running the Soccer program, Mr Campbell has also put a focus on healthy eating habits, challenging the children to eat two pieces of fruit a day, drink at least one litre of water each day and for those who want the extra challenge, to not eat any chocolate for the week! It has been amazing seeing so many children, of all ages, get involved and give it a go, so excited to share their achievements with their peers, educators and of course, their families.
We can’t wait to see each child’s progress as the program continues!

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Welcome back to Term 3. It promises to be filled with some great school events but this depends of course, on the ever-changing COVID situation and subsequent restrictions. We must remain vigilant if we are to stay ahead of the virus. This really has become our 'new normal.
Year 4 camp
And it all began with the Year 4 camp this week. I will provide a complete story from camp next issue but I am just so appreciative of the work the staff did to prepare and run this event for our children. They will need a couple of days to catch up on lost sleep due to noisy parties somewhere nearby and the dodgy smoke detectors that resulted in the Queensland Fire Service checking out the dorms. Nonetheless, the beach remained a great spot to be during the day.
Coronavirus, masks and parents at school
Information on what has changed, including on the wearing of face masks, is available on the Queensland Government COVID-19 website.
The following requirements apply to all school sites and include:
- Students are not required to wear a face mask when on school premises or when travelling on dedicated school transport.
- School staff are not required to wear a face mask when working with children.
- Adults, including volunteers and family members, are required to wear a face mask if they cannot maintain physical distancing from each other at school
Further information about face masks in school settings is available on our Queensland COVID planning framework page.
The COVID-19 pandemic is ever changing and I encourage you to remain vigilant in staying safe and following health advice including:
- Students need to stay home if they are sick
- Get tested if you have any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild,
- Adults need to wear a face mask when you can’t physically distance
- Use the Check in Queensland app whenever visiting for school special events
You may like to peruse the Frequently Asked Questions for Parents section of the Department's website as well.
Mrs Eastman joins the SSC team
We welcome Mrs Eastman to Coomera Rivers this week. She is replacing Mrs Walker who has won a position in a school in Maryborough.
I have enjoyed my first week at Coomera Rivers State School and appreciate the warm welcome to your school community.
I’ve taught in Special Education across Logan and Gold Coast state schools for the past 18 years. During this time, I’ve held the position of Head of Special Education Services at Musgrave Hill, Benowa and Woodridge North State Schools.
Most recently, I’ve been at Coomera State School as Deputy Principal of the Special Education and Early Childhood Development Programs. I've met many Coomera Rivers families through the ECDP and have been so excited to see children who attended the program now thriving at 'big school'.
I’m looking forward to working with the Coomera Rivers staff, students and families to ensure the best possible outcomes for all. Please come and introduce yourself if you see me around the school.
Kind regards
Vic

The fire truck came to school
Year 2 had their Fire Education visit on the first day back of this term. It was great to have our guests out to talk about Fire Education and also show off their big red truck! The students were respectful, engaged and really enjoyed their experience!
In fact, Lacey from 2D went home to tell her family that she wants to become a firefighter and then proceeded to inspect the smoke alarms. This is such a heartwarming story!

Year 2 Digidesign study robots
The following photos show the Year 2 introductory lesson into digidesign. The students will be becoming familiar with driving a Sphero robot using their iPads to steer them. These spherical robots were highly engaging and this week, students experimented with speed and colour while navigating them around a string track. I have used these and they are tricky and fun!

Prep C reaches their century
Today, Prep C celebrated 100 days of school by creating their self-portraits. Congratulations Preppies! Lovely collage work too...
Writing stays in focus
We have been working hard on our writing this week and many students have achieved their writing goals and have their photos in the gallery below. You will also notice our writing stimulus with our very own Tree Beard (just like in The Lord of the Rings). The purpose this semester is to foster a love of writing through using an engaging stimulus and Tree Beard seems to fit the bill.

Puppies and an impressive class presentation
Bailey and Violet from 1N have been working on a presentation about puppies. They started working on it at school last term and worked on it more at home. Today, they presented their work in front of the whole class. They had typed up their information, displayed it in the Apple TV themselves and had supporting photos to elevate their presentation.
Everyone in 1N was very impressed with their hard work.
Running Club starts virtual run around Australia
Our Running Club runners are 'virtually' running around Australia!
We have been recording the distance each student runs each running club morning since Week 5 of Term 2 and from the start of this Term, we started on our virtual run around Australia journey!
Below you will see we have accumulated a total of 965.25km's since Term 2 Week 5. With this in mind, we set off from Brisbane and we have arrived at the town of Blackall.
We have shared below some fun facts about the town of Blackall.
Each week the Running Club report will update you on how far we have ran to date and where we are on our journey around Australia.
Individually, when students reach 50km and 100km at Running Club, they will receive a band to recognise their achievement. We will also feature their success, along with our weekly runner of the week in this report starting from next week.
Running Club is held every Tuesday and Thursday morning from 7.45am. We would love to see you there!
Student achievements
Gymnastics
Well done to Isabella who competed at the Queensland State Club Championships in Caloundra for gymnastics. There were 30 teams competing in level 6 with 147 competitors. The competition was very tough but her team of 6 girls held on and finished 10th overall. They placed 6th on the Vault & 9th on the Floor. Awesome.

Touch football
Over the Weekend Seantayne played Junior State Cup Touch for Gold Coast U12’s in Hervey Bay. His team made it through to the grand final, but unfortunately was defeated. What a wonderful achievement!
Siba Soccer is coming
Creating an OSHC Book of Records
It has been so lovely having all of our wonderful OSHC children and families return in Term 3. We’ve had record numbers in week 1, with our biggest before and after school care sessions ever!
We’ve really been focusing on starting our OSHC Records Book over the school holidays and would love to continue on with this throughout the term. The children get to choose what record they would like to break, meaning that each child can attempt something that they feel they can achieve as well as creating a sense of ownership. Some of the favourite records to break so far have been:
- The fastest obstacle course run
- Most basketball hoops in a row
- Most ball bounces in a row
- Longest skipping record
- Airplane target practice
On Thursday morning Mr Kyle ran another obstacle course to see whether the before school care children could beat the records that were set over the holidays. The children warmed themselves up before having their turns and gave it their best! There were certainly some impressive times that’s for sure, but unfortunately the record from vacation care is still the fastest. Not to worry though, there will be plenty of opportunities to set a new record over Term 3! What record would you break? It can be just about anything! Think outside the box and send us in your suggestions!
