Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
We have completed another terrific week at school with assessment, NAPLAN and Diamond awards the biggest focuses.
NAPLAN 2019 is completed
Congratulations to our Year 3&5 classes on a great NAPLAN on-line experience. This was our first trial at this method and I was pleased with how smoothly it went. This was largely due to the preparation by parents in loading the necessary app and teachers for their management of the test procedures. The P&C were heavily involved with providing some extra brain snacks (fruit) each morning and the rewards boxes at the conclusion of the program. Thank you ladies for your great support once again.
Diamond promotions
We classify our student behaviour levels into three categories - Emerald, Sapphire and Diamond. These gemstones represent the three school colours as well. The highest level of personal behaviour is Diamond and it is difficult to achieve. Diamond level students epitomise the qualities to which we want all children to aspire. These are the children who represent the school with pride, they focus on the learning, their conduct is impeccable, their service to others and leadership at school is admired and their social interactions are highly respectful. It was lovely to see the very large degree of support they each received from their classmates as well. Congratulations to the students who earned their Diamond level promotion this week.
This year will see some students in Year 6 receive their fourth Diamond level badge. Some in Year 5 will have earned their third and some in Year 4 will have earned their second. To recognise the significance of these achievements, we have created a colour coded badge system.
The original Diamond level badge remains in place then we will progress to Green, Navy and Gold.

School accounts
The school is able to support families who require financial assistance with the option of payment plans for the resource scheme. If you enter into a payment plan (by instalment) we need every debt honoured. Unfortunately, students will lose the privilege of attending school camps, excursions or events if debts are active and repayment schedules are not up to date. Please discuss any concerns about finance with Mrs Porch or the administration team.
School resources
Your children need access to a number of on-line subscriptions each year. These are the 'text books' from which we set their group or individual courses. The school can provide you a very cost effective way to supply these (at roughly $3.50 per week per child) or you can provide them privately. Either way, children use them daily at school and you will enjoy the access through SeeSaw to see directly what your children are learning and doing in class. If you would like to be part of the school resource scheme, please contact the school before the end of this term. Only families new to the school will be able to join the scheme after this date.
Coming events to know about
There are quite a few secial events still to come. This is just some that need to be marked on your pantry calendar.

Have a great week

Well done to Year 3 and Year 5 classes
A sensational day was had recently when the Coomera Rivers chess club took on rivals from local schools at the Cluster Schools Chess Competition. Our club has boys and girls of all ages and abilities learning about the game - piece moves and strategy - and these tournaments are a great place to show their learning.
Thank you to Mrs Hardwick, Ms Nic and Gardiner Chess for a great day. Special congratulations to Stella, Ashtiva and Keagan on winning trophies on the day and to Alex who earned a special mention from the main arbiter.

Representative Sport
Congratulations to Chezaan who has made the South Coast Touch team for U12 Girls. She has had an excellent year with representative sport. Nice recognition for all her hard work with her sport and fitness.
Interschool Sport
Reminder to all students participating in ISS that Monday is our first round that they must come to school in their complete GREEN uniform and black joggers. They MUST also bring their school hat and water bottle.
Year 1 PE
The Year 1s have been super lucky to have some support from some of our Year 6s. They have been 'showing them the ropes' with the long-rope skipping, helping them with group, run-ins and solo skips. Thanks heaps to the students who teachers helped made the experience an awesome one for our Year 1s.

Running Club
A big thank-you to Ms McLean, Mr Murillo and Mr Cope for your efforts in assisting Running Club this week. The wet grass in the morning hasn't stopped our dedicated athletes from running. Reminder: We recommend students bring spare runners / socks for Running Club.

Kokoda Crusaders take on Parkrun
It was the final training session this Saturday for our Coomera Rivers Crusaders before they embark on the 15km Schools Cup Kokoda Challenge next weekend. Main Beach proved to be a lovely location for a 5km Parkrun and the best part was, there were no hills! It was a chilly start to the morning but our students and staff soon warmed up with a pretty rigourous warm up session with Mr Murillo. It was great to see parents make the most of the morning and join in on this session. We are certainly looking forward to the big event next week in Brisbane.
We are very pleased to share with you the published

Building a positive respect for Indigenous perspectives into our school and community is valued highly at Coomera Rivers OSHC. In recognition of National Sorry Day we have been exploring the Indigenous culture and beliefs through a range of artworks and activities, which the students have appreciated. Educators have enjoyed reading dream time stories to students and discussing the importance of all Australians recognising and celebrating National Sorry Day. Through our craft activities we have been investigating the meaning of the Aboriginal Flag along with different indigenous symbols and traditional artworks. The students thoroughly enjoyed using different material and mediums for their creations. Students have demonstrated their enthusiasm and curiosity to learn and understand other cultures and beliefs and their ability to interact in relation to others with care, empathy and respect.

Parents and caregivers must send children to school every school day under Queensland law unless there is an acceptable reason such as:
- illness
- competing in school sporting events.
If your child is going to be absent from school, you must let the school know why the absence has occurred within two school days of their return. If possible, it is best to advise the school beforehand.
Avoid keeping your child away from school for reasons such as:
- birthdays
- shopping
- visiting family and friends
- if they sleep in
- looking after other children
- minor check ups or care, such as hair cuts.
Routine medical or other health appointments should be made either before or after school or during the school holidays.
Establishing good routines around school can assist with regular school attendance. These include:
- have a set time to go to bed
- have a set time to get out of bed
- have uniform and school bag ready the night before
- have a set time for starting and finishing breakfast
- set a time for daily homework activities
- speak about school positively
- send your child to school every school day including their birthday and the last day of term from Prep.
If you are experiencing difficulty in sending your child to school, contact your child's deputy principal for advice and support.
Design, Create, Share is embedded in our culture and our students participate in this daily across all learning opportunities. Why not continue this at home?
Here is a great opportunity to support your child in doing what they know how to do at home and a chance to win an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil!
If anything is possible, what will you create?
If you had unlimited time, money, help, or skill, what would you invent, build, create, or engineer?
Think It!
Think about your life, and the life of people around you, and show us what problem you can solve, or what idea you can come up with to make life easier. It could be big or small, helpful or fun, or a mix of these.
Design It!
Draw, paint, build, or design your idea. You could use paints, pencils, PhotoShop, the CAD program, cardboard, or lego. It could be as simple as a quick sketch or as detailed as a technical drawing.
Share It!
Share your idea with us for a chance to win an iPad Pro and Apple Pencil. Make sure it’s a photo or file that is A3 sized, high resolution, and landscape format.
The competition is open to anyone of any skill level. Entries close at 5pm AEDT on 30 September 2019.
Woolworths has just launched their Earn & Learn program, and we're joining in again. For those parents who aren't aware of the program, if you shop at Woolworths between 1st of May and the 25th of June, you can earn stickers. Our school will be collecting those stickers which we can then swap for new school equipment; things like art and craft supplies, sports gear, teaching aids and much more. There are thousands of things we can choose from.
So for any parents who shop at Woolworths, please collect the stickers and drop them in to our collection box, which is located near the volunteer sign in iPad in Corporate Services. Thanks for helping us out!
Please send your empty cans and bottles to school to be added to our recycling program. This is excellent fundraising for our school projects.
The collection bins are along the path near the main gate each morning and then stay at the covered area outside the back of the office during the day. Please drop your containers in them.
As always we have a bit going on including Grandparents day and the Bingo Bonanza evening. Longer term activities are starting to gather momentum, such as the Fair, Year Book and even Fathers Day! The cafe team continue to do a great job with the flu season starting to take a toll on our volunteer numbers too so if you are able to spare an hour or so, we would very much appreciate your contribution.
