We respectfully acknowledge the traditional custodians of the lands on which we walk, live and learn, the Bullongin & Kombumerri people. We pay our deepest respects to Elders resting in the Dreamtime and to the Elders of today, who will continue to care, protect and nurture the Country that we gather on to learn and connect. We feel both privileged, and grateful to now be sharing and caring for the country on which we are living and learning.
Events, dates and times may change. Please check the school calendar regularly to keep updated.

Dear mums, dads, carers and colleagues
Things are always busy at school and this week was no different. And next week is cranking up with inter-school sport, Eisteddfod and Wakakirri headlining the week. Please read below for more information - especially to expectations around representing our school at sport.
Purple day
We acknowledged Bullying No Way day today with a free dress day. The theme was purple and it was lovely to see the kindness and respect shown by students towards others today.

We are always grateful for kindness and respect
The school staff work very hard and commit to many hours each week to help our children and community. While none of the school team is seeking recognition, we are very grateful to those adults who always show respect and kindness. Your children appreciate it too.
Superb writing in Prep S
I spent some time with some of our Prep authors today and was impressed at their the standard and skill shown in their writing. In just 25 weeks of school they are writing some fantastic persuasive pieces. Poor Goldilocks was not at all popular for breaking that chair and eating some porridge!
Some holidays are coming our way
Please note the coming dates on your calendars.
- Friday 29 August is Show holiday on the Gold Coast
- Friday 5 September is a Student Free Day at school
Kind regards
Vic
Hats off to these superstar learners for an amazing week! Your curiosity, teamwork, and enthusiasm for learning have been a joy to see. Keep shining bright!

Celebrations of Learning
Prep
‘Who’s that trip trapping on my bridge!’ is what we heard all week long in our Prep classrooms. Prep students have been reading and listening to Fairytales this term focusing on retelling the story, sharing what we like about the story and explaining how it makes us feel. This has built on our oral language and developed our abilities to share our ideas with our class. In Prep J we have built bridges and used puppets to retell the story. We have written about, and drew the mean and nasty troll in a directed drawing lesson then painted with watercolours. We also got to paint the Three Billy Goats Gruff trip trap trotting across the bridge. I wonder what Fairytale we will learn about next?
Year 1
1H Let’s Explore Measurement and Procedure
This term 1H have been investigating measurement. We used materials like counters and blocks to measure the length of objects. We also measured the capacity of containers by filling them with cups of beads or marbles. We used our hands and balance scales to measure the weight of objects to decide which object is heavier or lighter.
In English we have been learning about the procedure of doing something. In week 1 we had fun learning how to play Duck, Duck Goose and in weeks 2 and 3 we got to make and eat fairy bread!

Year 2
We love painting, making music, and being creative—it always brings a big smile to our faces! Our Celebration of Learning was filled with colorful artwork, joyful sounds, and lots of imagination. Creativity helps us express ourselves and makes every day more fun!

Primary schools netball carnival
On Monday the Year 6 Coomera Rivers Crusaders netball team participated in the Gold Coast North Primary Schools Gala day. Up against some strong competition, the girls did themselves and our school proud with their sportsmanship and outstanding efforts in every game. Competing in the championship division, they finished 6th overall, out of 12 teams.
Congratulations Emily, Maioha, Honey, Amelia, Harper, Mila, Gracie, Amania, Livie and Mia! And thank you Mrs Walsh and Ms Parker for their wonderful coaching.

Sport expectations:
Players are representing our school and must:
- attend school regularly
- behaviour appropriately at school
- wear or take with them the complete uniform (listed above) if they are to do so. Children who do not attend in full team uniform on sport day will stay at school and we will reimburse travel costs to families after the sports season is finished. If any players need assistance with uniforms (including school hats & jackets), please contact the school 48 hours before the scheduled departure. We cannot assist after this time.
- display appropriate behaviour for sport at this level. School sport is about participation. Any swearing or aggressive behaviour towards other teams, team mates or officials will automatically result in them being withdrawn from the team for the season.
Parents must:
- teach their children that school sport is played for fun. Any family members or friends swearing or aggressive behaviour towards other teams, their players, our players, any coaches or officials will automatically result in their child being withdrawn from the team for the remainder of the year. There are no exceptions.
- teach their children about representing something bigger than themselves. The full team uniform is non-negotiable.
South Coast
Good luck to Nia and Tiaki who are representing South Coast at state trials in Roma this week. We’re lucky to have some really talented touch football players at our school.
The excitement is building
On Monday night coming, our large cast of 70 students along with 8 dedicated teachers will head up to the Logan Entertainment Centre to perform in the nation-wide Wakakirri competition. Wakakirri is a story-dance performance and the assigned theme for 2025 is Mind Over Matter. The performers have all worked very hard rehearsing for over 16 weeks and have had lots of fun along the way. We wish them all the best, Chookas!

Cook Islands Language Week (August 3-9)
This week we celebrated Cook Islands Language Week, embracing the theme 'Connect me to the offerings of my people'. Students learned about the Cook Islands’ pate (also known as toere), a traditional wooden slit drum, and enjoyed having a go at playing it.
This term, our Pacifikai program is focusing on physical movement. Students explored how different organs of the body help us during physical activity and then put their skills to the test in a fun, team-building game—transporting a ping pong ball through paper tunnels and slides—which challenged their coordination, communication, and teamwork.
